Better Value, Too

Equipped with 2.7-liter EcoBoost, the all-new F-150 is a better value than even diesel-powered pickups. For instance, the $495 option on the Ford is significantly less than the $4,470 3.0-liter Ram EcoDiesel option.

In addition, with diesel prices currently 76 cents per gallon more6 at the pump, each 3.0-liter Ram EcoDiesel fill-up costs over $24 more than the new 2.7-liter F-1507. That means at today’s fuel prices Ram EcoDiesel owners are not able to offset the additional cost of their EcoDiesel engines with fuel savings8.

“Once again, the Ford F-150 establishes new standards in durability, capability and efficiency, defining the future of tough,” said Nair.

Numerous Fords Claim Car and Driver 2015 Editors’ Choice Awards.

Social Buttons by Linksku

It comes as no surprise to us at Bill Fick Ford in Huntsville that several 2015 Fords have landed on Car and Driver Magazines Best Cars, Trucks, SUVs, and More for 2015: Editors’ Choice Awards. The magazine editors share their top choices for the best cars, pickup trucks, SUVs, and more for 2015.

2015 edgeFull-Size Crossover/SUVs Category
The Ford Expedition made the Editor’s Choice list. Per the pages of Car and Driver: “The Expedition—Ford’s Suburban fighter—features new front and rear designs as well as a new, more powerful engine: a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. It’s still sporting the same body from 2007, but Ford hopes the updates will make the Expedition a contender. The twin-turbo V-6 engine makes 365 hp—up 55 from last year’s V-8—and comes with a six-speed automatic. A continuously controlled suspension is optional, as are four trim levels. The EL version has a longer wheelbase and more cargo room.”

Hybrid-Only Vehicle Category
The Ford C-Max saw top honors from the Editors as one of their picks. According the the auto magazine: “The C-Max is based on the frisky Focus, making it a2014 Ford C-MAX Hybridn economical, fun-to-drive alternative to the typical hybrid snooze fest. Its steering is firm and communicative; a four-cylinder and a pair of electric motors provide decent motivation. The Energi, the plug-in version, ups battery capacity to extend the electric-only range, but gets 2 mpg less in the city and 1 mpg less on the highway than the C-Max hybrid. An updated C-Max has debuted in Europe; expect it to be sold here with few changes.”

Full-Size Truck
The Car and Driver Editors name the Ford F-150 One to Watch. The magazine goes on to write: “The battle for pickup-truck supremacy rages on, with the new F-150 using aluminum as its sec2015_F150_SV3_6205ret weapon. Ford claims that its use of aluminum in the body and the bed reduces weight by 700 pounds—but the frame is still made of high-strength steel for strength and durability. Engines include a 3.5-liter V-6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 or 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, and a 5.0-liter V-8. Ford is taking a gamble on aluminum, but if it succeeds, it could alter the way trucks are designed and built.”

Sport Compacts
Two Fords earn top spots. Both the Ford Focus ST and the Fiesta ST are Editor picks! They say the Fiesta ST: “recipe for fun is simple: one part playful chassis, a dash of firm steering with a generous helping of confident brakes, and turbocharged muscle. The 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 197 hp; a slick-shifting six-speed manual is the sole transmission. The interior is perhaps the only letdown, as its interior materials are shared with the down-market base Fiesta. It is at least a comfortable cabin though, especially with the optional and very supportive Recaro bucket seats.” As for the Focus ST, they tout it stating: “The Focus ST belongs on any enthusiast’s short list, combining a high fun-to-drive factor with the versatility of a four-door hatchback; that’s why we’re always happy to get a turn behind its wheel. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque is standard, as is a six-speed manual gearbox. The ST shines on a winding road or track and offers decent efficiency and value.”

Muscle Cars
Not a huge surprise here either, the all-new Ford Mustang races into the Editors’ Tops list. “The iconic Mustang—with its classic pony-car looks and hunkered-down stance—preserves a legacy that defines American motoring. A 300-hp 3.7-liter V-6, a 310-hp 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder, and2015MUSTANG_SKV_5758 a 435-hp 5.0-liter V-8 are all offered with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. A new, independent rear suspension improves body control and provides better cornering poise. In either coupe or convertible form, the Mustang appeals to a wide audience without compromising its heritage.

Mini/City Vans
The Ford Transit Connect gets the sole Editors’ Choice in this category. Car and Driver writes: “Focused on utility and economy, this van is available in two wheelbases with seats for up to seven in three rows. There’s more than 100 cubic feet of cargo room and a 1200-lb payload. When properly equipped, it can tow 2000 lbs. The base engine is a 169-hp 2.5-liter four; optional is a turbocharged 178-hp 1.6-liter four. With minimal extra power and fuel economy, in our opinion the 1.6-liter is not worth the extra cost. This is a comfy van with lots of available tech, and handsome in its way.”

Aluminum 2015 Ford F-150 Stomps the Competition

Social Buttons by Linksku

2015_F150_SV3_6205When Ford announced the new 2015 Ford F-150 would be made from the same stuff you drink your soda from, many questioned how well aluminum would work. Well, Ford has proven that the company’s trucks still work as hard and can play as hard as ever. Ford touted that the newly designed truck would set new standards, and now it has.

This article from Car & Driver seems to agree. According to Ford, the new F-150 will be able to tow up to 12,200 pounds and haul up to 3300 pounds in the bed. The latter figure is particularly impressive, as the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500 models can officially haul just 2270 and 1900 pounds in their beds. The F-150’s trailering figure bests the Ram’s top tow rating of 10,650 pounds and squeaks by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s max trailer weight of 12,000 pounds.

In fact, Ford’s recent efforts to follow proper SAE-recommended testing practices provide a more calculated approach to arriving at the aforementioned numbers. These incredible rating shows that the aluminum body, which features high strength military grade aluminum, is a suitable body replacement for trucks.

We can’t wait for these beautiful, rugged trucks to hit the market. Be on the lookout for them later this year. In the meantime, stop by Bill Fick Ford for a look at 2014 F-150s or any other fave Ford model. See you soon!

Fuel-Efficiency Myths Debunked!

Social Buttons by Linksku

Screen Shot 2014-09-15 at 3.38.42 PMAt Bill Fick Ford in Huntsville, we know consumers are always looking to make the most of every drop of fuel. While there are plenty of things you can do to help your car be more fuel efficient such as proper tire inflation, accelerating more gradually and removing excess cargo that may be stored on or in your vehicle. There are many myths according to MSN Autos. Take a look at the top 10 called out in their recent article.

  • Keeping your tank nearly full prevents evaporation- This myth is based on the assumption that cars release gas vapors resulting in inefficiencies. However, modern fuel systems are designed to prevent this from occurring.
  • Shifting to neutral at stops saves fuel- Modern fuel-injection systems sense when unnecessary gas is being injected, so having your car in neutral is unnecessary to save gas.
  • Manuals get better MPG- Modern vehicles with automatic transmissions are designed to shift gears at the optimal moment, often providing marginally better gas mileage than a majority of manual drivers.
  • Dirty filters = lower mileage- This could remain true for older vehicles that still use a carburetor. However, computerized engine control modules deliver optimal air-to-fuel ratio. It’s still proper vehicle maintenance to keep your air filter clean, though.
  • Cooler temp fill ups mean more gas- Fuel is stored in large, insulated containers underground that regulate fluctuations in temperature. So even if it’s cooler outside, the gasoline maintains roughly the same density as if it were warmer.
  • Setting cruise to controlling fuel- This particular tip is still up in the air. Many believe that maintaing this constant speed is good for gas mileage, which is quite plausible. However, cruise control on roads of varying elevations can actually have a negative impact on your gas mileage!
  • Fuel additives add up to savings- There’s strong evidence that suggests that the savings you obtain from better gas mileage do not offset the costs of products that allegedly increase your gas mileage.
  • Age-old question of mileage over the years- Proper preparation prevent poor performance. If you proactively maintain your vehicle over the years, you shouldn’t notice any change in the gas mileage you’re getting.
  • Topping off puts MPG over the top- Topping off your vehicle after rthe pump stops could actually damage your vehicle’s emissions system, so this “tip” should definitely be avoided. It can also causes damages or a huge mess to the gas pump, too.
  • Tailgate won’t negate aerodynamics- While it may seem counter-intuitive, having your tailgate up provides better gas mileage than having it down. As air flows over and around the truck, it drifts over the cab and provides a pushing force on the back of the truck.

Screen Shot 2014-09-08 at 9.32.10 AMThe crew at Bill Fick Ford in Huntsville is thrilled that the first 2015 Ford Mustangs are now rolling out of the Flat Rock plant. As we prepare for the new, we look back to the past and reflect on 50 years of pure pony power with the owner of the very first Mustang sold.

On April 15, 1964, Gail Brown, a teacher fresh out of college was looking for her first new car. Little did she realize that by the end of that day, she would become the first retail customer to buy a new Ford Mustang. She had one before it was even unveiled at the World Fair.

It was a salesman who changed her fate. She wanted a convertible. The salesperson said he didn’t have any but told her to come to another room. When he removed the cover from the vehicle, there it was. A baby blue convertible. She was sold. And you won’t believe what she paid for it.

Just take a look at her story…

As you can see, 50 years later, Gail Wise and her husband Tom still own that baby blue Mustang convertible. Ready to own your own dream ride? Come take a test drive at Bill Fick Ford in Huntsville (also serving Conroe, College Station, Bryan, and greater Hunstville area) . Shop online anytime at www.BillFickFord.com!
